As we head towards the next important international climate conference – COP30 to be held in Brazil this Autumn - the importance of forest protection and restoration in addressing climate change and biodiversity loss has never been more urgent. Forests are among the most powerful natural solutions to both climate change and biodiversity loss. High-quality Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) is essential to maximize benefits for the climate, biodiversity, and human wellbeing.
Thanks to your generous support, the Trillion Trees partners continue to work towards a future with more trees on the planet protected, restored and under improved management.
In 2024 we have:
- Planted and regrown nearly 247,000 trees through our ReForest Fund supporting 10 new landscapes, with the potential to sequester up to 4277 tCO2e
- Hosted delegates of the Convention on Biological Diversity COP16, in Cali, Colombia, on a field trip to experience high quality forest restoration ‘on the ground’
- Piloted our Forest Restoration Catalyst in two landscapes in Brazil and Indonesia
- Published a report calling out the need for including forests in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)
- Contributed our scientific expertise to the 2024 Forest Declaration Assessment , which highlighted untapped forest landscape restoration potential in some of the most important landscapes for wildlife and people
- Built a strong collaboration with AFR100, the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative – hosting a joint event at the UNFCCC Climate COP29 in November last year.
